Day 2 of our Kansas to Washington trip!
We are still in Limon! Nothing disastrous happened today at all! Here are a few updates though!
Chapter 1 : The Truck
We got the truck back today! We had to wait until around 9:30 this morning to call the mechanic and find out what was wrong with the truck, so we got up early! Of course we did! The kids woke up at 5:30, so this pretty much feels like one of the longest days ever. It's really a bummer we weren't heading down the road with that wake up time! Anyway, around 9:30, dad calls and the mechanic said that there was nothing wrong with the truck. It just experienced vapor lock and that we were good to drive down the road. My dad asked if there could be anything else that might be wrong since the check engine light was on, and we really didn't want to load up and get going down the road and have the truck die again. So, we took the truck to a different mechanic down the road for a second opinion. This mechanic had whatever computer diagnostic system you need to get whatever readings there are to find out what happened, and said that our fuel pump was bad. He also said he's getting really sick of mechanic #1 telling everyone they have vapor lock and sending them on their way, only to have them die down the road and then towed back to his shop. Guess I'm glad we got a second opinion! So, thankfully they put our truck in the front of their queue and got it fixed today! But we didn't get it back until around 1:30 this afternoon and Willow was already taking a much needed nap, so we decided to hang out at this camp site one more night and try and get a long day in tomorrow.
Chapter 2 : The Pool
So, what did we do all day while waiting to hear about the truck? Since it was a good 102 outside, we alternated between the cool A/C of the trailer and the pool. Lots and lots of swimming. We were there 3 different times today. Like I said, lots and lots of swimming.
Chapter 3 : The Fires
The fires in CO are so bad. It's what everybody around us is talking about. In the evening, you can see the smoky haze on the horizon and you can really smell smoke in the air. So far, the roads we need to be open are still open, but our route tomorrow will take us pretty close to Fort Collins, so we're really praying that we can get through there. But we'll check the DOT in the morning and see if we need to make an alternate route.
Bring on the next travel day! Really praying the truck doesn't have any more trouble, because we're gonna start climbing into some major elevation! At least the temperatures should start getting a little cooler for us!
